There is a handbag for every purpose and the range and variety available to us now has created an industry all of its own.  Handbags can be categorised according to their size, and their size denotes their function. Starting with the smallest there are purses, clutches, handbags, tote bags, messenger bags, shoulder bags, satchels and briefcases.  This is not an exhaustive list but covers the more general types.

Men often ask, "Why do women need so many bags?"  A quick look at the list above might help to explain.  Each bag type is designed for a specific occasion and time of day, so a woman with a properly equipped wardrobe will need at least one in every style if she shops, works, socialises, and goes on holiday.  In order to provide her with a range of bags to suit the colours of her clothes then she is likely to have at least two of each type, so already we are up to 12-14 bags.  Add to this the fact that fashions change each year and you can soon see why the selection of bags in a woman's wardrobe will be well into double figures.
