Women’s & Men’s Jeans, Designer Jeans
Once upon a time a pair of jeans was a pair of jeans. There was not much choice apart from size and weight of denim, but these days the choice is bewildering. For example, there are ten different jean cuts to choose from and they come in all kinds of colours and weights of denim. Added to that is the fact that a designer label can add all kinds of desirability to a pair of jeans and the result is a huge range of choices for designer jeans.
So what types of jeans are there? Here's brief summary:
1. Straight leg – the cut stays narrow and close to the leg all the way down and does not flare
2. Flared – the cut remains narrow and close to the leg until it reaches the calf at which point it widens i.e. flares
3. Bell bottoms – this cut was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. They were very wide flares.
4. Stove pipe – the cut on the leg is straight but it's wider than a straight cut
5. Boot cut – the cut stays close to the leg until it reaches the calf and then widens just a little to allow for boots worn inside the jeans
6. Tapered – the cut is tapered and becomes narrower toward the ankle
7. Skinny – skinny jeans are the really tight ones that figure hug the bottom, thighs and leg
8. Capri – the jeans end just below the knee
9. Cropped – the jeans are cropped short on the calf
10. Cuffed – the leg is rolled up into a cuff. Sometimes also called turn-ups
As well as the cut of the jeans there is also the denim type, colour, and finish to consider. Stone washed blue denim, heavy, black denim, ripped lightweight denim and so on.
