Choosing Travel Luggage

Travel Luggage comes in all shapes and sizes and although its purpose is largely practical it is also often considered to be part of a your wardrobe and therefore you may want to choose something that matches your tastes and styles.  However, before you choose your next item of luggage let's summarise the various options open to you.

The following luggages types would serve as a starting point:

  • Backpack - a bag that is slung over both shoulders.  Sometimes called knapsack when carrying camping supplies.
  • Trunk - a large piece of luggage often wooden, plastic, or even light metal.  Due to its size this isn't really practical for most air travel and is usually only used for sea voyages or for overland journeys.
  • Suitcase - a general purpose piece of luggage that comes in various sizes and may or may not have wheels.
  • Wheeled Upright - a suitcase on wheels with an extendible handle that allows the owner to pull it along behind or push it in front.
  • Suit or Garment Bag - a large flat bag that is often lined and which is used to store clothing.  It sometimes has a coat hanger integrated with it and straps on the outside which enable it to be folded and secured. They can be quite large and are sometimes wheeled.
  • Tote Bag -  a shoulder bag or a small bag on wheels.  Often used as hand luggage on aircraft although some models exceed the maximum allowed weight and size for overhead lockers.
  • Duffel bag or Holdall - a soft bag that comes in a variety of sizes.  Usually barrel shaped and used to carry clothes or sports equipment.
  • Briefcase - a piece of hand luggage usually used for carrying business documents.
  • Carpet bag - luggage made from pieces of carpet!
  • Rolling Luggage - a term which describes any kind of luggage that has wheels attached to aid movement (see above).

Choosing Swimwear and Beach Wear

As with all areas of clothing and fashion there is no shortage of choice when it comes to swimwear and beachwear for women.  For the woman who might be a little self concious of their torso then the once piece swimsuit is an all time favourite, but she needn't sacrifice style simply because she's not wearing a bikini.  Similarly, a one piece suit might be the beachwear of choice for the larger lady. Some of these swimming costumes now contain control wear panels whcih squeeze and support 'problem' areas and when combined with the use of colour and patterns they can help to make the wearer look a size or two smaller than they actually are.  If a one piece costume is not your preferred choice then there are several other types available to you and we describe these options below.

The bikini has been around for about seven decades now and can be stylish and flattering.  The bikini top provides modesty and support and may have shoulder straps or be strapless.  The bikini bottom may be a discrete pantie type garment or a more revealing thong type which leaves little to the imagination.  Thong bikini's are popular among younger women while increasing age appears to bring with it an increased amount of material as women choose something more modest and discrete to cover the  more initmate areas of the body.

In recent years the tankini has appeared on the clothing rails of swimwear stores.  It's a two piece item but the top is more like tank top and not at all like the usual bra top of bikini.  Again, this is perhaps more popular with women who want to reveal less skin but who also enjoy wearing something a little stylish. It also means that they can mix and match tops and bottoms and buy one or the other instead of buying another bikini.

Visit our swimwear and beachwear section for some examples.
